Bruce Anchors for Sale

Bruce Anchors for Sale. We provide Bruce Anchors worldwide from our warehouse in Italy.
Peter Bruce launched his new anchor design to great interest from the boating community in the early 1970’s, the UK patent having been filed in 1971. The anchor features a triple fluke configuration which forms a ‘claw’ shape. It enjoyed a good level of success, addressing many of the problems, mostly those pertaining to setting reliability, of the CQR and Danforth, then the only alternatives for small boats. This success was perhaps its downfall when the intellectual property protection expired, as it quickly became one of the most imitated types. The design is cast as a single piece, lending it to inferior production processes which undercut the high quality heat treated casting used originally by Bruce Anchor Co. Today,
From TheBoatOnlineStore.com, we offered a Boat shop online with more than 20.000 boat accessories from European manufacturers

Anchors Britany

Anchors Britany. The Britany is the only flat anchor with a shank designed not to foul, thus preventing the anchor from breaking away. It bites the seabed within seconds. Constructed from high resistance galvanised steel (55kg of steel per sq.mm).
The Brittany has no large crown to prevent potential fouling. To avoid clogging with pebbles the Brittany has no link cage. Thin Flukes with sharp edges ensure quick gigging even in the hardest sea beds.
Geodynamic flukes ensure easy burial and perfect holding. High resistance shank cast in one piece gives perfect resistance even to a strong lateral pull. Narrow crown designed to lift the rear of the anchor and so facilitating immediate biting into the seabed.
We provide Britany Anchors worldwide from our warehouse in Italy.
TheBoatOnlineStore.com is an International Network of Boat Stores internet Based. We offer a wide range of Marine parts and Boat Accessories from Manufacturers at most competitive prices. We Ship from Italy throughout Europe, United States, Canada, Australia and Latin America without Limitations

Swivel Anchor Connectors

Swivel Anchor Connectors. Anchor connector testing : Manufacture of chain in all materials and sizes is a closely controlled operation, using well-understood methods.

The product is inspected and tested before dispatch to the point of sale, resulting in a reliable product that rarely gives problems in service.  Likewise, the better modern anchors are engineered to exacting standards and tested to ensure that these are met.  But what of the shackles, links and swivels that connect the two together?  Any yachtsman browsing the pages of the ybw.com forums or the magazines will find no shortage of questions and discussion about the merits of the various types available, and quite a number of horror stories detailing failure of some of them. Manufacturers have reacted to these well-documented problems by producing new designs that appear to be well engineered.  However, the only way to determine the strength of these fittings in practice is to test them to destruction.

We designed a programme to assess the strength of a wide selection of such fittings, using a standard tensile testing machine. Chain, shackles, swivelling and fixed connectors and various links were purchased in well-known chandleries in the UK. The intention was to use 8 mm as the standard size, increasing this in accordance with recommendations that one size larger may be required in some cases. A few larger sizes were tested for interest.

It is rarely possible to find the materials of construction of fittings on sale in chandleries.  Better quality fittings may have their materials stamped on them, for example 316 stainless steel.  It is usually possible to tell a galvanised fitting from a stainless steel one but otherwise assumptions must be made.  Galvanised chain is normally a hot forged low carbon steel, producing a tough material of adequate strength.  Fittings such as shackles are made by a variety of methods that are cost dependent, cast or stamped being the cheapest and drop forged the most expensive. As might be expected, the most expensive are the strongest, so in general you get what you pay for.  A good guide can be that better equipment will have a safe working load (SWL) value stamped into its surface.  Galvanised shackles intended as components of lifting and hoisting equipment tend to be stronger than the standard chandlery item and are little more expensive. The SWL figure of lifting equipment allows a factor of safety of at least six, whereas that for chain is normally four.

Mooring Buoys

Mooring Buoys. Setting Your Own Mooring Buoy by Frank Lanier
As successful anchoring is often viewed as something of a black art by many boaters, nothing quite compares with the satisfaction of picking up your own mooring buoy after a hard day’s sail, free from the hassles of dealing with heavy ground tackle or worries over midnight anchor dragging.  Setting your own mooring buoy is common practice in many areas and for good reason as it allows maximum usage of protected waters, particularly those where construction of docks for slips isn’t practical.
Unless you’re lucky enough to own waterfront property, the first step in setting a permanent mooring buoy will likely be getting approval from the state, federal, or local entity in charge of the area you’d like to place it.  Each will typically have regulations in place regarding construction and setting of moorings and while requirements will likely vary between them, here’s some general installation and maintenance basics that will help no matter where your mooring is located.
A typical mooring system consists of a pendant, buoy, riding chain, ground chain, various shackles and swivels, and finally some means of anchoring the whole system to the bottom.

Pendants can be constructed of most any type of rope, however braided polyester probably best meets the requirements of strength and resistance to both chafe and deterioration due to sunlight – elasticity (as in the case of selecting an anchor rode) isn’t an issue due to the pendant’s short length.  Each mooring buoy should have dual pendants, one primary and one back-up or safety pendant.  Both should be constructed of the same size and type of rope, with the safety pendant roughly 25% longer than the primary.  Wire rope or cable should not be used, as they can saw through chocks or fairleads due to the motion of a moored vessel.  Boaters sometimes use polypropylene or install a float in the pendant to make it easier to pick up, although some areas don’t allow floating pendants (to reduce the chances of fouled props).
Mooring floats normally consists of a white buoy with a horizontal blue band visible above the waterline, although vertical spars may be called for in some locations.  Buoy selection is based on the buoyancy required to support the combined weight of all suspended mooring system components (pendant, riding chain, etc) – buoyancy provided should be around 50 to 100% greater than this total weight.
All mooring buoys should be labeled for identification purposes, either with the owner or vessel’s name, mooring permit number, intended use (as in the case of yacht club moorings for visiting boats labeled “Guest”), or whatever the controlling authority of the water your mooring is located in requires.
Both riding chain and ground chain are sized based on factors such as mooring location, vessel size, and often what is specified by the harbor master or whoever oversees the area you buoy is located.  General requirements are that they be heavy enough to both provide minimal vessel movement with reduced scope and be of sufficient size to allow some wearing due to corrosion and abrasion without significant loss of strength.  Because of this need for increased chain size, use of galvanized chain is good, but not a critical requirement – most of it will probably be worn off after a season or two anyway.
The key requirement of the remaining rode components (shackles, swivels, float through-bolt, etc) is that they be sufficiently sized to meet the intended load you’ll be placing on the mooring.
SINGLE POINT MOORING SYSTEMS
Mooring systems are typically classified as either single point or double point.  Single point systems (the focus of this article) provide a single point of attachment (i.e. one buoy and pendant), while double point systems provide both fore and aft mooring – two single point mooring systems set close enough that a vessel’s bow can be tied to one and stern to the other is a good example of this.
The most common single point mooring systems utilize either a mushroom anchor or a deadweight (such as a concrete sinker), although screw-type anchoring systems such as those offered by Helix® are also popular.  “Star” moorings utilizing three patent anchors (Bruce, Danforth, etc) set 120 degrees apart (multiple anchor-single point mooring) may be another option in some cases.  Each of the above has their own pros and cons, which when coupled with factors such as bottom composition, vessel size, location, etc, will help decide which anchoring system is best for your particular situation.  Be forewarned that you may not have a choice in some areas, as many agencies dictate which types they’ll allow in the waters they oversee.
Mushroom anchors are well suited for clay and mud bottoms soft enough to allow the anchor to fully bury itself.  Once set, they provide great holding power when subjected to a steady pull (due to both anchor weight and suction of the bottom soil) however it’s possible they may creep if subjected to sharp, repetitive jerks, although a well set mushroom will most likely not pull completely free.
Deadweight anchors can be anything from concrete sinkers to automobile engine blocks (with oil and other such contaminates removed, of course).  Pros include cheaper cost and being able to use just about anything heavy at hand to make them, however a deadweight anchor’s biggest advantages are their ability to be used in seabeds where other anchors may have difficulty setting (packed sand, hard clay, etc) and the fact their holding power (unlike mushroom and patent anchors) is not significantly reduced if they begin to drag.  Horizontal holding power (for concrete sinkers anyway) can be increased even more by casting rebar “fingers” into the sinker’s bottom to increase drag.
Deadweight anchor selection must be based on “immersed weight” rather than air weight – concrete’s immersed weight, for example, is roughly half of what it weights out of the water, which can translate to requirements for some substantially large anchors.  A deadweight anchor will need to be roughly 10 times as heavy to do the same job as a comparable, well-set mushroom anchor.  Sufficient scope is important in this regard for both deadweight and mushroom anchors, although not in the same way as for a standard anchor, the goal here being to reduce vertical lifting force rather than provide horizontal penetrating power.  Typical recommendations call for providing between four to seven feet of rode per foot of maximum water depth (taking extreme high tides into consideration).  You’ll also need to take a look at your vessel’s swing radius while moored, to prevent problems such as hitting nearby boats or possibly shallow water.
Screw type anchoring systems are just that – the mooring consists of a screw anchor (available in various sizes) that is literally screwed into the seabed.  Holding power is determined by the size and number of spirals the anchor contains and seabed composition.  The holding power attributed to this type of mooring is impressive – Earl Hinz states in his book “The Complete Book of Anchoring and Mooring (Second edition)” that a properly set 150-pound screw anchor with a 1 ¼” shaft has exhibited holding power equivalent to a 40,000-pound concrete sinker.
Maintenance
Properly constructed mooring systems require relatively little maintenance, however regularly scheduled inspections are crucial.  Shackles should be properly moused with stainless steel safety wired, pennants must be regularly checked for chafe and deterioration, and the mooring itself should be pulled annually for a complete inspection (or at least every two years).
During these annual inspections the entire mooring system should be laid out and checked for problems such as wear at connecting items (shackles, chain end links, swivels, etc) and rust or electrolysis damage.  Some rust is unavoidable and not a big deal, but be sure to chip it off in various areas to ensure you have enough good metal left to hold everything together.  Also, don’t paint the bottom of your mooring buoy floats with copper-based antifoulant paint, which may possibly cause problems with electrolysis.
Unless installing a permanent mooring buoy in private waters (and even then in some cases) the entity in control of the waters your mooring will be located – the town harbor master, marina manager, yacht club, etc – will generally provide you with information on both the type of mooring they require you to use, as well as the size of all components.  These will most likely be based on your vessel’s size and whether the mooring is located in areas they consider to be well protected or those more exposed.  Below is an example taken from a website for the Town of Chatham, MA.

Bimini Canvas

Bimini Canvas. How to select the right bimini top for your boat. Take a look to the largest range of Bimini Covers from European manufacturers
If there is one product that will help you enjoy your boat on a hot summer day or a cool rainy one, it is your bimini top.  They do however require replacing from time to time.  Either a bad storm came through or your brother in law left it up while trying to go under a low bridge, bimini tops can get pretty beat up.
Choosing the correct bimini top is important because the right looking one will set your boat off from the rest while at the same time giving you plenty of coverage and years of use.  The wrong one will leave you looking for the duct tape to repair the fabric, or the frame.  Thus living up to the saying ” a boat is a hole you sink money into.”
If you are on ebay and have searched the internet you have seen how many different folks sell bimini tops.  A lot of them are the same – atwood, carver, etc…and are just sold by different companies.  Those companies buy a bunch of them from atwood and carver and then resell them.  If you need something a bit different than what they carry, they probably can’t help you.  It’s not that they don’t want to help, they just don’t carry what you need.
So what do you need?
To start off with you need to know how wide your boat is at the mounting point.  That is going to be your width.  Next, decide how long you want your bimini top.   Keep in mind some of your passengers may enjoy the sun so covering the entire boat may not be a great idea.  Now consider how tall you need it.  Keep in mind you are mounting it to the windshield, or rail, or gunnel of your boat.  This is the easy part by the way.  It gets more difficult from here.
So you have a good idea of the length, width, and height of your bimini top and frame.  Here is where all the decisions and the price differences come into play.  Let’s talk fabric.
I am amazed at how many sellers claim the material their bimini is made with is the best.  Really?  Is Sunbrella the best?  It may be, but it may not be what you need.  I always ask customers to think about how long they are going to own the boat.  If they are planning on selling it in the next few years,  sunbrella may not be the best choice.  It may be overkill.  You don’t need to own a Cadillac to get to the corner grocery store.  I can’t say anything bad about Sunbrella though – it carries a great warranty and has a great reputation for not fading as fast as others.  Cases can be made for several other fabrics.  Only holding on to your boat for a year or two?  A nice strong solution dyed polyester called navigator will be just fine.  Maybe you are keeping it for the next 5-7 years.  I’d go with a fabric called weathermax or even surlast.  Top gun is another great choice.  Are you planning on running 50MPH on the water or just a leisurely cruise?  Keep in mind the way you use your boat as well.  There are so many different fabrics out there it is hard to keep track of what to use – unless you are in the  industry as I am.  I always inform my potential customers of the advantages and disadvantages of each fabric.  Make sure you buy from someone who really knows the difference and will help you make the right purchase for you – not their pocket book.  To some degree it also comes down to your budget as well.  There are some great materials out there that you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg on.
Okay, now that we have the fabric chosen (if not give me a call, I’ll help you out) lets talk framework.  Stainless or Aluminum that is the question.  You guessed it – it depends on your use.  Are you in salt water or fresh?  Do you have a cabin cruiser or a pontoon boat?  The right framework needs to be strong but also compliment the boat.  Let’s start with fiberglass runabouts – cabin cruisers.  Stainless Steel is stronger than aluminum.  Even double reinforced aluminum that I’ve seen floating around ebay and the internet.  Steel is stronger.  Does that mean you need to buy the stainless frame?  No.  Again consider how you use your boat.  Consider if you are in salt or fresh water.  If you are in salt water and running hard go with stainless.  7/8″ or 1″ round will serve you well.  I caution you to stay with stainless hardware on the frame and deck mounts as well.  Okay so you aren’t in the ocean, perhaps on a small inland lake.  Not running too fast or too hard?  Stay with the 7/8″ aluminum.  It will serve you well and save you some bucks.
Have a pontoon boat?  I’d go with square tube aluminum.  If your top rail is 1″ or 1 1/8″ go with a 1″ square tube frame.  Is your top rail 1.25″?  I’d go with square tube 1.25″ aluminum.  There are two main ways the frame is connected together.  You can get the black vinyl fittings or the metal aluminum extruded fittings.  In saltwater?  Tough choice.  The black vinyl fittings won’t corrode but you lose some strength.  Freshwater pontoon?  You can go with either black vinyl fittings or the aluminum extruded fittings.  I prefer the metal.  They are typically satin anodized to match the frame and add more rigidity to the frame.
Every bimini top package should come with a storage boot, rear braces, and front straps – standard.  A good company will let you swap out those front straps for front braces at little to no charge.  The bimini top should be sewn with a UV protected thread as well.  After all if you choose sunbrella but the manufacturer uses a cheap thread, the bimini is no good.  If you can ask for the thread to be tenera or another lifetime guarantee type thread even better. The bimini should be edged or bound in the same color as the rest of the fabric.  I’ve seen a lot of red bimini tops with black edging all the way around it.  Make sure it is color coordinated – it just looks better.
Speaking of looking better.  Make sure you like the way the bimini top looks.  The lines of the bimini top should compliment the lines of your boat.  Pick a color that will accent your boat.  I’ve also found that the lighter colors tend to take a longer time to show fade.  however,  pick too light of a color and it will only take one seagull to really make it look bad.
There are some companies that can sell you just what you need right out of a box from carver or atwood or taylor made.  Their bimini in a box might just happen to be what you need.  If you need something different though, you need to find a custom shop….or us.  We are the kind of company that will walk you through the process all the way through installation.
